CONGRATULATIONS on starting your fitness journey! The first pieces of equipment I suggest buying are dumbbells but size DOES matter. In the beginning you’re able to use water jugs. I demonstrate this in several of my videos found here but as your strength progresses, it is wise to invest in a good set of dumbbells.
When purchasing dumbbells it is best not to go too small or too large. I highly recommend buying the CAP Rubber coated HEX dumbbells in 8lbs, 12lbs, and 15lbs. You can do a lot with these three sizes.
You can find these dumbbells here. The advantage of these types of dumbbells is the anti-roll design, the protective coating, and the contoured steel handles. I also post exercises that require specific grips that only these types of weights allow.
